1. The volley is the easiest shot in tennis. A lot of us did not learn or use it when we were children because if we came to the net our opponent easily hit the ball over our head because of our size.
So we were marooned at the back of the court and only came to the net to shake hands at the end of the match. Many players have not played a volley in their career.
2. So In the first instant we need a new mental attitude. Be brave and get up there, after you have hit a decent approach.
3. By just being at the net you put pressure on your opponent. They have a smaller target which demands an accurate and higher quality shot which they may not be able to play consistently.
4. Use it to change of pattern of a match when plan A is not working.
5. Remember your first volley need not be the winner. Use the first volley to set up an easier put away shot.
6. Technique. Make it a compact shot. Do not complicate it.
7. The best thing about the volley is that there is great satisfaction in hitting a volley winner.
